Whether it's a friend's birthday, or a day-time get together, or maybe grabbing a bite before a movie with a date, I can't think of any better place I'd choose to go in this part of town!
The interior is beautiful, very classy, with Michelangelo reproductions filling the walls.
In terms of the service, I can't say it's exceptional. It's fair. When I am there with my parents, for example, the service is different than if I go with my girlfriends. I assume they think that the older generation would give them a better tip so they try harder. But to me, service is service and the wait staff shouldn't be assuming anything.
Now, to the good stuff! The food is delicious! For a friend's birthday a couple of years back, we ordered a whole table-full of appetizers and meals. What I remember well is the calamari. Most places do NOT know how to cook calamari. It usually tastes something like a non-sugar gummy-bear but worse. But in Mirage, it was the first time I enjoyed it. The dipping sauce was very good also. On other occasions I ordered pasta and salads. In terms of salads, thankfully the place has more of a selection than just your standard cesar, house, or greek. I like to experiment with food and try new things and I found here a few items to my taste.
On to desserts and drinks! Is "mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!" enough? I've taken the waffles and ice cream on several occasions (sans meal), the dessert itself is extremely filling and is enough for two, if not three people! covered in fresh fruit and snowballs of ice cream its an awesome (although quite fattening) treat! I think over the years I've tried all of their waffles and a few of their cakes. The cake selection is huge. The cheesecake is always fresh and delicious and the way it is presented is also very nice, with decorative chocolate or strawberry sauce. I am a tea drinker, and the teas are very good, with a bit of amaretto or anything else they become even better. For those hot, summer days, there is a whole array of crushed ice drinks, fruit/milk smoothies, cocktails... One of my favourites is the avocado smoothie, it's made with vanilla ice cream and is very soft on the palette. The list can go on and on, as I visit Mirage quite often and would definitely recommend!
