Rewriting Tuesdays
The movie theatres were the first to cotton on to the idea of Tuesday being the most dishwater-dull of all the days of the week. Now a slew of Toronto eateries are looking to inject their own kind-to-your-pocketbook-inspired mark on that full-of-grace day.
Tuesday Foodie is a spanking-new 52-week program, launching January 3, that gives cardholders a 30% break on the bill at a collection of local restaurants. Available online for $60 (check out: www.tuesdayfoodie.com), the card is designed to stir otherwise indolent gourmands out of their winter slumbers and onto the city streets in search of discounted grub — ideally at establishments they wouldn’t otherwise have visited.
The list of 21 participating restaurants, which is a bit of a who’s who of the Toronto dining scene, includes such luminaries as Blue Plate, Café Diplomatico, The Bowery and The Royal Elephant.
The Tuesday Foodie program also includes a competition, wherein participating cardholders earn points for tweeting @tuesdayfoodie, similarly updating their Facebook status @tuesdayfoodie or writing, in exuberant terms, on the Tuesday Foodie wall. The top three point scorers will earn cash prizes on December 21, 2012.
So set your PVR to tape the next episode of NCIS or Biggest Loser, and turn 2012’s second day of the workweek into nothing less than a gastronomic adventure.
