Musa burns down
Summer mornings will dawn a whole lot differently for a lot of folks next weekend when they stumble into the sunlight in search of sustenance only to discover their brunchtime standard is no longer. Musa, a popular eggs benny hotspot near Dundas and Euclid, was all but destroyed by fire this weekend when a five-alarm blaze swept through it and neighbouring homes Sunday afternoon.
This casual Mediterranean-themed restaurant, owned by Amy Fleischman, has been a neighbourhood mainstay for the close to 10 years it’s been serving devoted eggs-and-bacon-lovin’ locals. The fire, the cause of which has yet to be determined, has left the almost hundred-year-old building with severe structural damage and just the memory of a roof.
Musa, which plays regular host to trendy Annexers with a taste for blending the first and second meals of the day, earned its rep dishing spiced roasted potatoes, steak and eggs—any style, and admittedly patchy service.
Regulars, traditionally prepared to invest a spell waiting for brunch seating to open up, will have an even longer haul now as Musa’s damage is assessed and plans for clean-up and repair are considered.
